our programs

Amani Kids is a community-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting African refugee and immigrant families in the United States. Through culturally responsive programs, we empower children and families to thrive by providing access to education, resources, and a strong sense of identity and belonging.

Bisakana Day:

Celebrating Culture, Community, and the Joy of Play

Bisakana, which means "play and have fun" in Lingala, is a community celebration that brings families together to experience the richness of African cultures through music, dance, games, food,, and cultural traditions. Grounded in the belief that children learn best through play, Bisakana Day creates opportunities for families to connect, build friendships, and celebrate their heritage in a joyful and welcoming environment.

Hosted during school breaks, this event encourages children to step away from screens and engage in active, hands-on experiences that promote creativity, learning, physical activity, and cultural pride. Bisakana Day strengthens community bonds while fostering a sense of belonging, identity, and connection across generations.

Amani Connect:

Connecting Families to Opportunities and Support

Amani Connect serves as a trusted resource hub for children and families of the African Diaspora. Through information, referrals, advocacy, and community partnerships, we help families navigate systems, access essential services, enroll children in school, and connect with resources that support their well-being and success. The program also provides parenting workshops, educational trainings, and resource-sharing opportunities that empower families to make informed decisions and build strong foundations for their future.

families to promote learning and growth at home. Each session features a guest mentor who
volunteers to teach a skill, share expertise, and inspire participants through meaningful learning
experiences and positive role modeling.

youth development, and family well-being through partnerships with local organizations and
schools. The program provides educational support, school sponsorship opportunities, and
